NEWSLETTER FOR SS3 PARENTS – 7TH MARCH, 2020.

Your children will be going home today, the 7TH of March 2020 after the MOCK examinations. However, this is optional. Children can as well stay behind in school and prepare for their JAMB & WASSCE examinations. JAMB time table is out and exam will be as from 14/03/2020 to 28/03/2020. WASSCE & NECO timetables are not yet out and SS3 students will continue with their studies. They are to return on SATURDAY, the 21ST of March, 2020 between 1pm and 4pm. Parents who are busy on that date should please make provision for their children/wards to be brought by some other persons. Alternatively, they could be brought a day or two before the date. No excuses on this matter will be entertained by the school management.

If  WAEC time table will be out before Easter and SS3 students will have exam to write, they will stay in the school and be well fed and taken care of during Festival period.

Important information:

  • All students are expected to resume with 3rd Term tuition fees because they are not going home till their Graduation.
  • SS3 students are still a part of Cherryfield College therefore we expect them to return with proper school uniforms and hair cut for boys and approved hair style for girls.

As your children leave our premises for a short rest, please bear in mind and remind them that EXTERNAL examinations are yet to start. They still have WASSCE, NECO and JAMB ahead!

You will have ample time to check the health of your children. If any child should ‘fall sick’ prior to the resumption date, their treatment may be continued in our Sickbay. They are old enough to monitor their health issues without parental supervision. Any student who fails to return on the resumption date may forfeit his/her privilege to attend the Prom.

Please bear with our rules just a little bit longer. Your children still have a short period to be with us.

GOODWILL MESSAGE

It is a thing of joy and pride that your child is graduating from Cherryfield College. It is also a thing of honour that your child could read your celebration of him/her.  Send a goodwill message using the medium of the school YEAR BOOK being published for them. A full page attracts a token of N50, 000 Naira while half page is N25,000 Naira.

OUR ENTRAANCE EXAMINATION WILL HOLD ON THE 14TH OF MARCH AND 23RD   OF MAY  2020 BY 10AM.

PLEASE INFORM YOUR RELATIVES AND FRIENDS FOR US.

Do have a beautiful time together!

EXTRA LESSONS:

In a previous newsletter in the first term,  parents of JS1, SS1 and new students were informed that most of their children were under observation. This term we arrived at a conclusion. These can be seen on the comments made on each child’s report. It appears that some children in SS1 made mistakes by choosing science subjects and therefore found it difficult to cope. We advise that the students concerned should change from sciences to humanities. However, those who do not wish to change from sciences to humanities because of their chosen future field require the sciences, will be assisted with extra lessons and will be contacted by SMS. They should also make extra effort from their own side to catch up with their peers. Some JSS1 students are yet to realize that they are now in secondary school and there are no parents or extra lesson teachers to assist them in completing their school work and home assignments.

We are organizing extra lessons for students with challenges in one or several subjects in JSS1, JSS2, JS3, SS1 & SS2. Parents of such students will be contacted by SMS and are expected to make payment on time at the rate 5000 Naira per subject. Parents who do not wish their children or wards to participate should please indicate so to the School Secretary.      We observed that some parents didn’t pay until now for extra lessons attended by their children during 1st Term. I still appeal to such parents to kindly pay the outstanding extra lessons fee.SS3 students are already having extension classes in preparation for their external examinations.

7th BI-ENNIAL INTER-HOUSE SPORTS COMPETITION 2020:

7TH of March, 2020 has been fixed for it. We decided to make customized track suit for the students according to the colors of their houses. It will cost 5 000 Naira. The payment should be made in the Accounting Department of Cherryfield College. The parents can also pay 5 000 Naira for their one track suits to support their children’s houses.

PARENTS NEWSLETTER-14TH OF DECEMBER 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians. You will be spending almost 4 weeks with your children and wards. I hope this period will be fruitful to both you and the children as you catch up on missed times and events.   I will advice that you create a balance between work and play during this holiday for the children. We appeal to you on this vacation to monitor your wards’ extra curricula activities and to curtail harmful excesses especially recreational. You have time to check the health condition of your children and we will not be expected to release any child for medical appointments booked after resumption.

For those who are travelling abroad for the Christmas and the New Year, please do not forget the necessary period of acclimatization for the children. Remember to bring them back to Nigeria at least 3 to 5 days before resumption.

We try to instill discipline into our students and we would appreciate it if you, the parents, will be exemplary in this too. We will expect every student of Cherryfield College to return to school on Saturday, the 11th of January 2020.  No children will be admitted on Sunday. Those students, who fail to return before 5 pm on resumption day without a good, provable reason, will resume a week later, on the 18th   of January 2020.  Bear in mind that the child will be missing 45 periods of study and will still face disciplinary measures for late resumption.

All boys should return to school with very low cut and the girls’ hair should be woven without attachments. All students are allowed wearing only school uniform provided by the College. Boys’ slim-fitted shirts, skinny trousers and girls’ slim-fitted blouses, short skirts and low-cut slim-fitted compound dresses, if found in children’s possession will be confiscated.

PARENTS OF JSS 1 SCHOOL STUDENTS

If your children or wards return home with empty or half empty cases and claim that everything was ‘stolen’ from them, please, make out time between 18th and 20th  of  December, 2019 or as from 6th of January, 2020  to come to the school with your child to recover the so called ‘stolen’ items.

I advise you to make a list of the items you are sending your children to school with, before bringing them back. I understand it might not matter to some people but this is not about being able to afford these items but about teaching the children responsibility and accountability.

PARENTS OF JS1 & SS1 STUDENTS

Some parents of JS1 and SS1 may not be impressed with the results of their children. However, you must bear in mind that this is a new stage for them. Their 1ST Term result is used to analyze the weaknesses and strength of each student. Their true potential begins to emerge during the 2nd Term, I assure you not to lose heart. Your encouragement and our hard work will bring out the best in them.

CFC NEWS PANORAMA

Newscasters: NNEOMA ALBERT (502)

Good Morning and a Warm Welcome to You All. My name is Nneoma Albert, your regular host, with the News.

The Headlines…

  • The New School Year Beckons with a Lot of Expectations
  • First Week of October Is Synonymous with memorable Events
  • CFC Strengthens Ties with More Diplomatic Missions

The News in Full

The 2019/2020 new school year in Cherryfield College commenced in earnest on the 14th of September with the return of all the old students, following the resumption of the new students and prefects one week earlier. The early resumption of the new students was to enable them get acclamatised amidst a series of orientations. The school prefects were on hand to help the new students quickly get adjusted to the school environment. In that regard, the college community is having high expectations in the new school year and this requires a sense of dedication to duty, self-discipline, team work  and tenacity across board. The Principal, Mrs Olga Igbo, stressed that much at the inaugural general morning assembly this term when she had called on the staff and students alike to be diligent on their duties in order to take the school to the greater height.

Every year, the first week of October is very unique in view of the memorable events that come with it. Tuesday next week being 1st of October of which our school will join the rest of our fellow compatriots across the country to celebrate 59th year of Nigerian nationhood. Four days later, precisely October 5th,  there will be World Teachers’ Day to celebrate teachers for their sacrifices and contributions to humanity. And going by the announcement made by Mr Bernard Egwu, the chairman of the Academic Staff Welfare Association, the school is planning big for the event. While there will be a novelty football match between the male staff and the male students, the female staff will square up against the female teachers in a relay race on that day. On this note, I wish to on behalf of the student body, wish our ever loving and enterprising teachers a marvelous and joyous World Teachers Day. May Almighty God bless you, strengthen you, and grant you wisdom as you continue to contribute to nation building.

Last Wednesday, September 25, Cherryfield College took another giant step towards expanding her ties with more diplomatic missions in the country by visiting EduUS Fair 2019. The two counselors led about twenty-two (22) students to the fair to get acquainted with how to secure admissions and visas to the U.S for further studies. Such a visit does not only benefit the students but also helps to strengthen friendship between Cherryfield College and the U.S Embassy.

Sports News

Cherryfield College will stage her 7th bi-ennial interhouse sports competition early next year. To this end, the sports unit has already announced the calendar for the training session of the four houses to run seamlessly. The fallout from that announcement was the house meeting that was held yesterday September 26 at different designated centres to rub minds on what to do to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

That ends the news. From me and the entire editorial crew, I’m Nneoma Albert saying bye for now.
