The News in Full

The 2019/2020 new school year in Cherryfield College commenced in earnest on the 14th of September with the return of all the old students, following the resumption of the new students and prefects one week earlier. The early resumption of the new students was to enable them get acclamatised amidst a series of orientations. The school prefects were on hand to help the new students quickly get adjusted to the school environment. In that regard, the college community is having high expectations in the new school year and this requires a sense of dedication to duty, self-discipline, team work  and tenacity across board. The Principal, Mrs Olga Igbo, stressed that much at the inaugural general morning assembly this term when she had called on the staff and students alike to be diligent on their duties in order to take the school to the greater height.

Every year, the first week of October is very unique in view of the memorable events that come with it. Tuesday next week being 1st of October of which our school will join the rest of our fellow compatriots across the country to celebrate 59th year of Nigerian nationhood. Four days later, precisely October 5th,  there will be World Teachers’ Day to celebrate teachers for their sacrifices and contributions to humanity. And going by the announcement made by Mr Bernard Egwu, the chairman of the Academic Staff Welfare Association, the school is planning big for the event. While there will be a novelty football match between the male staff and the male students, the female staff will square up against the female teachers in a relay race on that day. On this note, I wish to on behalf of the student body, wish our ever loving and enterprising teachers a marvelous and joyous World Teachers Day. May Almighty God bless you, strengthen you, and grant you wisdom as you continue to contribute to nation building.

Last Wednesday, September 25, Cherryfield College took another giant step towards expanding her ties with more diplomatic missions in the country by visiting EduUS Fair 2019. The two counselors led about twenty-two (22) students to the fair to get acquainted with how to secure admissions and visas to the U.S for further studies. Such a visit does not only benefit the students but also helps to strengthen friendship between Cherryfield College and the U.S Embassy.

Sports News

Cherryfield College will stage her 7th bi-ennial interhouse sports competition early next year. To this end, the sports unit has already announced the calendar for the training session of the four houses to run seamlessly. The fallout from that announcement was the house meeting that was held yesterday September 26 at different designated centres to rub minds on what to do to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

That ends the news. From me and the entire editorial crew, I’m Nneoma Albert saying bye for now.
