and Junior Informatics. Senior category covered Senior Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics. The FCT zone of the examinations has three designated centres:
i. GSS Zone 3, ii. Loyola Jesuit College, iii. Cherryfield College.
The record has shown that 1,705 students in the FCT participated in the examinations during the 1st Round. Out of these figures, Cherryfield College alone presented 146 candidates for the test. Total number of qualified students for the 2nd Round from all the participating schools in the FCT was 123. The breakdown of these figures is noted below:
i. 1st Position went to Loyola Jesuit College with 35 students representing 30.1%
ii. 2nd position went to Cherryfield College with 36 students representing 29.3 %
iii. Other schools in the FCT with 50 students representing 40.6%
The success or failure in the examinations is usually determined by the number of gold, silver and bronze medals obtained by participating schools through their respective representatives. The outcome of the exercise was very rewarding as Cherryfield College contingents put up a very sterling performance in the examinations by clinching eight (8) individual medals in both the junior and senior categories. The staff that prepared and mentored the students were equally and amply eulogised at the assembly. It took the Principal, Mrs Olga Igbo, to handle the proceedings of the awards’ presentation to the students. Interestingly, the most outstanding candidate from the school was Ojobo Daniella Onyinye (JSS 3), having come first in ‘Junior Science’ with a gold medal. The remaining students also distinguished themselves with several silver and bronze medals.
The award ceremony was organised by the school in one of the recent general morning assembly where the students who marshalled out the exploits in the examinations were highly celebrated and honoured. Reacting to questions posed to her by the CFC News Panorama crew, Ojobo Daniella Onyinye, said it was a dream come true because of her tenacity, constant practice, and mentorship by her teacher, Mr Adoyi Godwin. However, she finally dedicated her exploit to God Almighty for giving her a retentive memory to impose herself on the questions which of course were very challenging.
The ceremony was rounded off with a group photograph by the awardees, the staff mentors and the Principal, Mrs Olga Igbo. In her closing remarks on behalf of Cherryfield family, the Principal expressed her profound appreciation to all the staff mentors for their tireless efforts and doggedness, and the students for their hard work, and prayed for God’s guidance.
